Man, 18, arrested after resident shot during Vaughan home invasion

An 18-year-old man was arrested shortly after being named on a Canada-wide warrant for an armed home invasion in Vaughan on Monday during which a resident was shot.
York Regional Police say the incident at a home near Sir Sanford Fleming Way and Grand Trunk Ave. – southwest of Dufferin St. and Major Mackenzie Dr. – just after 3:45 a.m. saw the resident taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim has since been released from hospital.
Police said Doneil Josiah Levy-Porter, of Brampton, was arrested Friday evening. He is facing several charges including firearms-related offences, possession of property obtained by crime, failure to comply with a release order and one count of failure to comply with an undertaking.
At the time of the alleged offences, police said the accused was on three release orders for previous unrelated charges.
Investigations are ongoing and police continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward, cops added.
