KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Andy Reid prefers to think of it as a tribute to his defense and special teams, rather than a knock against his offense, that the Chiefs are getting a big chunk of their scoring in those areas.
In fact, nearly a quarter of their points during a 6-0 start have come from touchdowns and safeties produced by their defense and special teams. The percentage of scoring rises to 46.1 percent when Ryan Succop’s 11 field goals are factored into Kansas City’s point total.
The Chiefs have three interception returns for touchdowns this season, along with a fumble recovery for a TD on punt coverage, and Dexter McCluster’s 89-yard punt return touchdown against the Giants.
Meanwhile, their scuffling offense has produced just 12 touchdowns this season.
