If you’ve got frequent flier miles and a craving for gourmet airport food, you may be in luck.
United Airlines, in its $120 million investment into upgrading the food options in their main terminal at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport, is allowing fliers to pay for food purchased in the terminal using their airline miles, reports USA Today.
Restaurants at the terminal will feature food from culinary heavy-hitters like Alain Ducasse, Marc Forgione, Paul Liebrandt, Dan Kluger and Mario Carbone, among others, according to Eater.
Dinners can enter their frequent flier numbers or scan their boarding pass at an iPad ordering station, where they can choose to pay for the food in miles or in actual dollars.
For example, an order of Trout amandine from Saison, the Alain Ducasse-created restaurant in the terminal, will cost eaters $25, or 3,580 miles.
The service, which has already been rolled out at a few restaurants in Terminal C, is the first partnership that has taken place between an airline’s rewards program and terminal shops and restaurants.
The CEO of OTG management, which is overseeing the changes in the terminal, told USA Today that all purchases, from bottled water to magazines, will be available through the frequent flier option by 2016.
